A Q&A with Ben Higgins;
What initially drew you to a career in mortgage broking, and how has your background shaped your approach to helping clients?
I was drawn to mortgage broking because it offered me a chance to use my banking experience and build a business for myself. Plus, I love the challenge of being self-employed and creating something lasting. The flexibility of this role is fantastic, allowing me to balance family life and my sporting interests. My background in banking, combined with the determination and persistence I’ve honed through sports, helps me find creative solutions for my clients and guide them toward achieving their financial goals.
With over 30 years of experience in residential lending, what changes have you seen in the industry, and how do you stay ahead of the curve?
I’ve seen lots of changes in the industry over the past three decades – too many to count! One of the best changes has been the increased professionalism, thanks to regular training requirements that lead to better outcomes for clients. Plus, the advancements in broking software have been amazing, giving us all the tools we need to serve our clients better. To stay ahead of the curve, I keep updating my knowledge through ongoing training and embracing new technologies that make our services even better.
Beyond mortgages, what are some of your passions or interests?
When I’m not helping clients with their mortgages, you’ll find me immersed in the world of sports, especially cricket. I have two sons who are heavily involved in cricket and watching them play brings me so much joy. I also coach cricket part-time, which keeps me connected to the game and allows me to help young players reach their cricket goals – something I find incredibly satisfying. And when I have some free time, I love hitting the golf course for a relaxing round of golf.
